Romantasy (noun) a portmanteau of romance and fantasy. A new genre combining elements of both.

The Romance genre is defined by Romance Writers of America as having two basic elements

• A Central Love Story
• An Emotionally Satisfying and Optimistic Ending, that is, a “Happily Ever After” (HEA) or, in the case of series a “Happy For Now” (HFN).

Fantasy, on the other hand, is a genre of speculative fiction involving:

• Magical Elements
• Fictional Universe Setting
• Inspired by Mythology or Folklore

Romantasy is the combination of all of these things. It is defined by having both and without the HEA or the magic, it would dissolve into one of its parent genres.
